Katie Couric, a liberal former news anchor, said she was struck by how far from making former President Trump less popular, his legal battles seemed to make him more popular because of them.
“Donald Trump appears to be ahead right now, despite his legal issues and the fact that he’s on trial with Stormy Daniels and Michael Cohen,” Couric said when asked about the state of the race. “What’s surprising is that Trump doesn’t seem to be losing momentum, he seems to be gaining momentum.”
“The Issue Is” host Elex Michaelson argued to his guests, “I think the upcoming debate in June is a recognition that Joe Biden and his campaign know they’re losing and that there’s a feeling that they need to throw some weight around the race. And they need to do it now, when there’s a perception that Joe Biden is old and weak and out of control.”

“Putting him on stage next to Trump gives him an opportunity to disprove that, but it’s also a risk, because he also has a chance to prove it,” Michaelson said.
Couric agreed, claiming that the Biden campaign is “very selective” about who it allows to interview the president.
She argued that such interviews “are not necessarily the place to ask really challenging questions about policy or vision for the future. I think he needs to get out there more and speak more, because I think the less he speaks, the greater the risk.”

She argued that Biden’s lack of interviews “only strengthens the idea that he’s unfit for the job.”
