A doorbell camera captured the terrifying moment last week when a carjacker opened fire in broad daylight as he approached a family saying goodbye in the driveway of their Jackson, Mississippi home.
“I put my hands up and yelled, ‘Hey, hey, hey,’ and he pulled me down,” Heather Allen said. He told WAPT-TV Regarding Friday’s trial.
“He jumped in the driver’s seat and I was standing outside looking in and he pointed the gun at my oldest son’s face.”
According to the sheriff’s office, Allen and one of his sons were outside a car parked in the driveway at the time of the crime, while Allen’s daughter, two grandchildren and eldest son were inside the car.
Video Show One of the suspects opened the driver’s door and pulled the victim, who was in the driver’s seat and identified as Allen’s daughter, out of the vehicle, according to WAPT.
“They kept yelling, ‘Give me your keys, give me your keys,’ and my daughter was yelling, ‘My babies, my babies are in the car,'” Allen recalled at the police station.
“He jumped in the driver’s seat and I was standing outside looking in and he pointed the gun at my oldest son’s face,” Allen told WAPT.
Allen’s son was able to get out of the car, but she then grabbed her grandchildren from the back seat, WAPT said, adding that all the while one of the suspects was yelling for the keys.
But ultimately, the suspects didn’t know how to move the car, police said.
“I can’t sleep. My eldest son has really bad anxiety and is scared. My daughter is in shock but the family is safe.”
Allen then threw her house keys on the ground, according to WAPT. Own The suspects then gave up on their car, which was parked in the driveway, and fled in Allen’s vehicle, according to the sheriff’s office.
“I can’t sleep. My oldest son is extremely anxious and scared. My daughter is in shock, but my family is safe. We’re in Batesville right now,” Allen told WAPT.
The family had been living in the area for about three months but now wanted to move out of Jackson, the station reported.
“I can’t be here anymore,” Allen added to WAPT.
What happened next?
Jackson police said they found Allen’s vehicle about two blocks from the crime scene just 40 minutes after the incident.
“The officer said the car is fine, but it’s in storage right now,” Allen explained to WAPT. “We can’t get it back until they run a fingerprint search.”
Police Chief Joseph Wade told the station that police are working to return Allen’s vehicle as soon as possible.
“I had a chance to watch the video of Allen and his family being robbed in their driveway and their car being taken,” Wade told WAPT. “It was very disturbing. Any threat to them and their family is a threat to everyone, so it’s very concerning.”
Wade added to the station that investigators have identified two suspects, but none are yet in custody.
WAPT said anyone with information can call Crime Stoppers at 601-355-TIPS.
