Gordon Hayward’s wife is rooting for him.
After Thunder general manager Sam Presti said it was a “mistake” to acquire Gordon to improve the team’s championship chances, Robin Hayward fired back at Presti.
respond Bleacher Report Instagram post Robin highlighted Presti’s statement, responding in the comments: “Why trade someone and not play them?…Missed an opportunity by not including him in the team😆🤷🏻♀️”
Presti offered his first criticism of the offense in a frank analysis of Gordon’s impact on the team after acquiring the veteran in February for three players and two second-round picks.
Gordon averaged 14.5 points in nearly 32 minutes per game with the Hornets, but just 5.3 points in 17.2 minutes per game in 26 games with the Thunder.
Gordon failed to score in the NBA playoffs, playing just 46 total minutes in seven games and taking just three shots as the Mavericks defeated the Thunder in the second round.
“I missed it,” Presti said of the Hayward trade. From ESPN“That’s on me, but I’m learning. I’m trying to learn this team. I’m trying to learn the pace of the team bit by bit. And I’m trying to be a good observer of the team, knowing that when the team is going well, they’re really going to change on their own.”
He added, “I guess I didn’t read that projection perfectly. I’m learning from it midway through the season, especially in terms of getting somebody early on in the team.”
Gordon, a first-round draft pick in 2010, previously called his time in Oklahoma City “frustrating” and “disappointing.”
“I think I have a lot to contribute as a player,” Gordon said, according to ESPN. “I just haven’t been given many opportunities to do it. I thought I would be given that opportunity.”
Robyn, who married Gordon in 2014, echoed similar sentiments in an Instagram comment.
The couple have four children: son Theo, and daughters Bernie, Charlie and Nora Mae. According to People.
Certainly, with the Thunder hoping Hayward will provide a great veteran bench presence and Gordon hoping for more, it seems natural that there would be some dissatisfaction on both sides.
Hayyard is set to become a free agent this offseason.
