Rumer Willis says her father, Bruce Willis, is “so loving” with their one-year-old daughter, Louetta, despite being diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia.
“He’s so amazing. I actually got to meet him right before I came out. [to New York]”I was so happy,” Rumer told Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager. “today” Wednesday.
“Lou had just started walking a little bit and she walked up to him and it was just so adorable.”
The “Sorority Row” actress, who is the eldest of the “Die Hard” actor’s five daughters, said she’s nostalgic watching her father spend time with his granddaughter, who was born in April 2023 with boyfriend Derek Richard Thomas.
“He’s a thorough girls’ father. I’ve seen him with my sisters and my younger sisters,” she said.
When Kotb asked if Loomer “sees it all coming back,” she nodded in agreement.
“Honestly, seeing them with her just brings back all my childhood memories, because I think being a grandparent is the best thing ever,” Rumer, 35, said of Bruce and her mother, Demi Moore.
“They get all the love and joy without any of the responsibilities. They just spoil her.”
Bruce shares 32-year-old daughters Rumer and Scout, and 30-year-old daughter Tallulah with ex-wife Moore, 61, and 12-year-old daughter Mabel and 10-year-old daughter Evelyn with wife Emma Heming Willis. Since announcing in March 2022 that he was “stepping back” from acting after being diagnosed with aphasia, he has received an overwhelming amount of support from his family.
Then in February 2023, the family announced that the action star’s condition had worsened and he had been diagnosed with “brutal” dementia.
While Bruce’s family say “there is no cure for this disease”, they hope that the “media attention” surrounding his life will “shine a light on this disease which needs much more awareness and research”.
A source told Us Weekly in December that Bruce’s diagnosis has “brought the whole family even closer together.”
“No one knows how much time Bruce has left so they are cherishing every moment they have with him,” the source added.
