An illegal immigrant from Mexico was arrested in Texas as an international fugitive wanted on murder charges, authorities said.
The Splendora Police Department announced May 24 the arrest of Leo Acosta-Sanchez, a fugitive murder suspect wanted by Interpol who was “in the state and country illegally.”
Officials said local police officers and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) agents were on a “routine patrol” when they identified Sanchez as a “wanted fugitive” and detained him.
Officers quickly called for backup, then conducted a traffic stop and arrested Sanchez “on charges related to the crimes he allegedly committed.”

Sanchez is Illegally life Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) told Fox News that they will not be able to enter the US after August 2023.
“Ms. Acosta violated the conditions of her admission by entering the United States as a nonimmigrant on August 20, 2023,” ICE said in a statement. “She remains in ICE custody pending disposition of her immigration proceedings.”
Sanchez is accused of being an accomplice in the murder of her boyfriend, Fidel Gonzalez, 27, of Yanga, Veracruz, Mexico.
Mexican news outlet N+ reported that Gonzalez shot On Aug. 13, 2023, a male friend punched him outside his home shortly after receiving a call from Sanchez telling him to come outside.
Four people, including Sanchez, have been arrested in connection with the murder, but Gonzalez’s family said three others involved in the incident, including the man who pulled the trigger, have yet to be arrested.
Sanchez’s arrest was celebrated on social media, with a Facebook post from the Splendora Police Department flooded with comments reading “#JusticiaparaFidel” (Justice for Fidel).
“Thank you from the Veracruz community in Texas!! Thank you to the Splendora Police Department for the great job you did and the extra steps you took to identify this woman!,” one commenter said. “Justice will be served and Fidel will rest in peace! His parents will rest in peace.”
