MSNBC host Mika Brzezinski spoke with Biden campaign communications director Michael Tyler about the campaign’s odd decision to hold a press conference outside the New York City courthouse where closing arguments are taking place in the trial of former President Donald Trump.
Brzezinski acknowledged that it was not a wise decision because President Joe Biden seems to be leaning into the fact that the historic New York trial was based on political reasons. The press conference was attended by Tyler, actor Robert De Niro, and former Capitol Police officers Harry Dunn and Michael Fanone.
“I guess I have to ask you why you decided to speak there and take your campaign to court. I don’t know. It doesn’t seem right to me at all,” Brzezinski told Tyler.
“We’re there because the news media has been on there nonstop, every day for weeks, so as I said last week, we’re going to be talking for the next month about the presidential debate in Atlanta and what Donald Trump has to explain,” Tyler replied, before laying out a lengthy list of talking points.
“We want people to [Biden] He took office.
“Michael, I understand everything you’re saying,” Brzezinski interjected, “and I agree with the officers who showed up and with Robert De Niro. But I am concerned about the venue. When members of Congress showed up last week to support Donald Trump, I said that was unbecoming of their office. They are serving the people of their districts, the American people. We should not politicize the court process.”
“Are you concerned that the campaign was getting too close to the trial and that it might backfire? Are there any concerns? Looking back, was it a good decision?” she asked.
“No, there’s no concern. The campaign is not talking about the substance of the trial in any way. What we’re talking about, what we talked about yesterday and what we’ll continue to talk about is the unique threat that Donald Trump poses to our democracy,” Tyler asserted. “So while a lot of the coverage recently has focused on the danger to Mr. Trump, we’re making sure the American people understand the danger to them.”
Tyler argued the purpose of the event was to remind people of what Trump has done for him and what Biden has done for the country.
“We want people to [Biden] “People need to understand that everything Trump says and does after taking office is only going to exacerbate the gap between the super-rich and everyone else.”
During the event, De Niro went on an insane rant, claiming that if Trump wins the election it could destroy not just the country but the world, and that it would be worse than 9/11.
