Darren Waller has a unique way of opening up about his private life.
The Giants tight end continues to consider retirement and released a new single, “Who Knew (Her Perspective),” on Thursday, just over a month after news of his divorce from WNBA star Kelsey Plum broke.
“On February 3rd, I felt a strong conviction that I had to do something different. I had never written a song from someone else’s perspective before. Taking an honest look at yourself from the shoes of those you’re close to is so rewarding (and so humbling). All that can result is growth,” Waller, 31, said of the song. In an Instagram post May 24th.
Waller, A music video was also released. According to TMZ, Jason said he wrote the song “from the perspective of a woman trying to love him.”
In the three-minute clip, Waller stars alongside a brunette woman as she sings about a relationship gone wrong, singing in the opening lyrics, “In life, it’s hard to love, it’s hard to be free, it’s hard to give your whole soul and get your heart broken in return.”
Waller’s song comes just weeks after a joint petition for divorce was filed in Clark County, Nevada, in April, according to online records viewed by The Washington Post.
“Devastated” Plumb suggested her marriage was over in a heartbreaking social media post around the time.
“I’m devastated,” the Las Vegas Aces’ star point guard began. “I’ve walked through fire for this guy and now I know it’s time to go.
“God has blessed me with an amazing life and I am so grateful for the deep love I have from my family and friends. I will share my story one day, but today is not the day.”
Waller is set to marry Plum, a two-time WNBA champion, in March 2023.
Waller was on hand last fall to cheer on Plum as the Aces won the 2023 championship, but speculation about the pair getting married began circulating in early 2024 when the NFL pro posted a video to TikTok of him dancing to a remix of the Delfonics song “Think It Over” and lip-syncing the lyrics.
The text that appears in the video is “When she tries to dump you.”
Waller later He told TMZ He was just joking.
Meanwhile, Plum is currently looking to win her third consecutive WNBA title with the Aces, who have started the season 4-1.
