The Mets and Yankees completed a rare citywide trade.
The Mets acquired catcher Luis Torrens from the Yankees and designated veteran catcher Omar Narvaez for assignment. Joel Sherman of the Post confirmed.
Torrens, 28, is batting .279 with five home runs and an .807 OPS for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre this season.
He has appeared in 269 career MLB games with the Padres, Mariners and Cubs since first being promoted by San Diego in 2017.
The Mets sent the Yankees $100,000 to acquire Torrens, Sherman reported.
Torrence had the option to request his release from the Yankees if he was not listed on the MLB roster by June 15.
The Yankees are relying on the catching duo of Jose Trevino and Austin Wells.
With Torres on the team, the Mets will have to release Narvaez.

Narvaez had a poor season this year, batting just .154 with an OPS of .376 in 69 at-bats in 28 games.
The 32-year-old was making $7 million this season as the backup catcher but lost out to Tomas Nido.
He also ranked second-bottom among catchers in Defensive Runs Saved this season with a -6. According to FangraphsThey got out just two of the 35 base-stealers they faced (5.7%).
Starting catcher Francisco Alvarez is working his way back.
The Mets sent pitcher Christian Scott and third baseman Brett Batty to the minor leagues on Friday and also promoted veteran infielder Jose Iglesias.
