DII football coach accuses Colorado of tampering; Buffaloes staffer says player was ‘catfished’

A Division II football coach has alleged that Colorado’s Deion Sanders and his staff tampered with one of his admissions letters.

Colorado State-Pueblo coach Philip Vigil took to social media to denounce the actions of the Buffaloes’ staff, posting screenshots of text messages that appear to be between one of Vigil’s future players and Colorado’s assistant director of player personnel, Devin Rispress.

The messages were screenshots from the players’ phones, and the images showed staff asking the players if they were “fully committed” to CSU-Pueblo. If the players answered “yes,” they received a new message asking if they would consider changing their commitment.

The player said he would need to discuss the possibility of a transfer with his family, and that after speaking with his coach again, “hopefully it will happen during the off-season next season.”

Vigil posted screenshots attacking the Colorado program, including Sanders.

“@NCAA & @Big12Conference, is this considered cheating or can (Rispress) and (Colorado) still acquire current players this way?” Vigil wrote, adding a thoughtful shrugging emoji to Sanders.

Colorado staff said there was no communication between Lisples and any players. In fact, he claims someone was impersonating him.

“Nice try, you got fooled by the wrong guy, bro.” Lispress responded“I wish they had contacted me before they tweeted this and embarrassed the program.”

Vigil then deleted the post and sent back what appeared to be a response.

“College sports is changing rapidly and my job is to support our players and programs. I have removed my social media posts so the NCAA can address this situation and similar behavior in college sports.” Rally Posts.

Neither school responded to requests for comment.
