Biden dismisses Trump's claims he's behind legal woes: 'I didn't know I was that powerful'

President Biden on Friday dismissed former President Trump’s claims that he was to blame for Trump’s legal troubles after Trump was convicted of 34 felony counts in New York state.

When asked by Fox News reporter Peter Doocy about Trump’s claims, Biden said he “didn’t know he had that much power.”

Biden told Doocy he had “no idea” whether a conviction in New York would help Trump in the November election. Asked if he was worried he might be indicted after he leaves office, he said he was “not worried at all.”

“I did nothing wrong. The system still works,” Biden said.

The jury convicted Trump of 34 felony counts, including making general ledger entries in his business records that prosecutors said were intended to conceal payments to his then-lawyer, Michael Cohen, who paid porn star Stormy Daniels to keep quiet about an alleged affair a decade earlier before the 2016 election.

The 12-person jury in the hush money trial delivered its verdict late Thursday afternoon after about 11 hours of deliberations.

In remarks Friday morning, Trump claimed his legal troubles were engineered by President Biden and “his aides,” but there is no evidence that the Biden administration was involved in the lawsuit filed by New York state.

“I don’t know if Biden knows too much about it, because I don’t know if he knows too much about anything,” Trump said. “But he’s still the president, so I have to use his name.”

Trump also repeatedly denounced the trial as “rigged” and a “fraud” and said he would appeal.

Biden on Friday criticized Trump’s comments as “irresponsible” and “reckless.”

“Our justice system must be respected and we must never allow anyone to destroy it. That’s all,” he added.
