Trump raises $53M in first 24 hours after guilty ‘hush money’ verdict

Former President Donald Trump’s campaign bragged Friday that it had received $52.8 million in donations in the 24 hours since a Manhattan jury convicted Trump in his hush-money trial.

The massive sum was donated to the 77-year-old Republican candidate’s campaign through online digital fundraising platforms, amounting to more than $2 million in donations per hour since the verdict was read.

“Biden and his Democratic allies are turning our legal system into a political tool, and Americans across the country are fed up,” Trump campaign advisers Suzie Wiles and Chris LaCivita said in a statement.

“The momentum is just beginning and, as President Trump so perfectly stated, the American people will have their true verdict on November 5th,” they added.

The campaign noted that more than a third of the donors were new to Trump.

Trump’s team previously said the guilty verdict had raised a “record-breaking” $34.8 million in small donations between 6pm and 11.59pm on Thursday.

The former president was convicted of 34 felony counts of falsifying business records related to payments for “legal services” to his then-lawyer and “fixer” Michael Cohen, which jurors determined were actually intended to prevent porn actress Stormy Daniels from speaking out about her alleged sexual encounter with Trump in 2006.

Trump is scheduled to be sentenced on July 11, a week before he is scheduled to accept the Republican presidential nomination.
