Following Hamas’ murder of more than 1,000 men, women and children in October 2023, regime-funded amnesty groups are calling for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip that would spare Hamas from destruction by Israel.
“We need an immediate and permanent ceasefire and an end to the genocide!” Tweet from May 29th It comes from United We Dream (UWD), an amnesty group founded in 2011 by pro-immigration lawyers and labor unions.
The group ignored Hamas’s deadly October attack, claiming:
Over the weekend, Israel launched an attack on Rafah, bombing a Palestinian refugee camp, killing several people. This tent massacre was another senseless and horrific act of violence and genocide. We must now make clear our support for the Palestinian people.

But the group’s embrace of Hamas politics highlights the political extremism, and often anti-Semitic views, being brought to the U.S. by immigrant groups, many of which are funded by progressives, and which have come as a shock to many Americans, especially supporters of Israel.
One result is increased donor support for President Donald Trump’s 2024 campaign.
UWD was created in 2008 and adopted in 2011 by radical lawyers and officials from the Service Employees International Union, who used it to stoke left-wing sympathy for young people and children illegally imported into the United States by illegal immigrant parents.
In 2012, President Barack Obama was an early advocate for this population, granting work authorization to roughly 800,000 young undocumented immigrants through the unlawful Deferred Action for Amnesty for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.
Since then, the Democratic Party has used DACA recipients to shape public opinion and to gain voting rights for illegal immigrants. For example, UWD Website We declare:
We demand no expansion of ICE and CBP deportation powers, a path to citizenship for all 11 million illegal immigrants. … We demand a moratorium on enforcement, the release and closure of immigrants held in ICE and CBP detention camps, and the right to return home for those who have been deported.
UWD Group Widespread and Positive press coverage from Established media outletin spite of, limited Open to the public.
As a result, many DACA immigrants and UWD activists have secretly gained legal status by exploiting loopholes in immigration law.

The need for an immediate and permanent ceasefire is clear. Entire Palestinian families, communities and generations are being wiped out at the hands of imperialism and forced displacement. https://t.co/tCr09K8Xms

But UWD’s pro-ceasefire tweets also show that many pro-amnesty activists are part of a broader “woke” movement. Despising ordinary Americans People who never attended college. This “woke” culture war movement is very different from the pre-2012 left-wing groups that claimed to support middle-class Americans while decrying Wall Street, corporations, the wealthy Koch brothers, and a corrupt government.
Post-2012 woke left groups now celebrate a fixed “identity” and are united in a quasi-religious “woke” opposition to “colonialists,” “occupiers,” and “white privilege.” Their culture war leftism is often directed at ordinary Americans in support of the priorities of supposedly oppressed outsiders, such as immigrants from South America and the Arab world.
These changes have put many pro-amnesty activists under intense career pressure to echo current anger over Israel’s campaign to destroy Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

On May 23, UWD statement It was also signed by a number of other pro-amnesty groups, who described Israel’s military operation against Hamas as “genocide.”
We demand:
An immediate ceasefire in Gaza, They also need to ensure the uninterrupted delivery of humanitarian assistance and services, and the immediate restoration of water, food, fuel, electricity and the internet.
Congress rejects funding request This will further enable collective punishment and genocide against the people of Gaza.
The ceasefire statement was signed by many organizations funded by progressive foundations, but also by groups funded by corporate CEOs and investors. Pro-amnesty groups include Al Otro Lado, the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights (CHIRLA), Make the Road, Mijente, Transgender Law Center, and UndocuBlack Network.
The statement was also signed by “Cristina Jimenez, co-founder of the United We Dream Network.”
The left’s collective tendency to condemn Israel is most evident in pro-Hamas street protests.
“I stand before you today as a transgender woman. My enemies, the enemies of LGBTQ people, are right here in America. They say the Palestinians are my enemies, but that’s a lie.”

In October, students at the diverse Berkeley High School in California walked out of school in a pro-Hamas demonstration. The New York Times report May 7:
“Students were chanting, ‘From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free,'” said Stacey Zsolt Harrah, a Berkeley High School parent who has helped organize families to combat what she says is a rampant form of hatred against Jews within the Berkeley Unified School District.
…
Berkeley’s public school system, which serves roughly 9,000 students, is incredibly diverse: Arabic is the third most commonly spoken language. The city has a sizable Jewish population, which is reflected in the schools, and it’s not uncommon for students to have strong ties to Israel.

The anti-Semitic shift shocked many donors and politicians who have been happy to give money to pro-amnesty groups.
In Maryland, for example, Democratic politicians were shocked that one of their immigrant groups, Casa de Maryland, took a stance in support of Hamas in the aftermath of the massacre. [W]We are deeply aware that the struggles for liberation of the Palestinian people and Black and Brown communities in the United States are interconnected; our shared and unwavering commitment to promoting humanity, security, and lasting peace throughout the region while confronting historical oppression that requires urgent relief.
19 Jewish Members of the Maryland State Legislature release “We are deeply disappointed and hurt by CASA de Maryland’s recent social media posts… which demonstrate a deep misunderstanding of Middle Eastern history, the Arab-Israeli conflict, and anti-Semitism,” the letter said.
“I think this is unacceptable,” said state Sen. Sheryl Kagan (D-Montgomery). Said.

President Donald Trump is trying to use the political threat of immigration to lure wealthy donors.
“One of the things I do is [foreign] On May 14, Trump reportedly promised donors that he would “deport any students who protest.” report By The Washington Post:
When a donor complained that many of the students and professors protesting on college campuses could one day hold positions of power in the United States, Trump called the protesters part of a “radical revolution” and vowed to defeat them. He praised the NYPD for clearing protesters from Columbia University’s campus and said other cities should follow suit, saying “we have to stop this now.”
…
During a roundtable with donors, Trump said he’s studied Jewish history and thought about this moment in American history. “If you go back in history, this was right before the Holocaust. Really. If you look, it’s the same thing,” Trump said. “We had weak presidents, weak heads of state. And it just got worse and worse. And then all of a sudden, Hitler comes along. We have a problem that nobody knew about.”
