Joel Dahmen stands at eight under par heading into the third round of the RBC Canadian Open. He carded a bogey-free five-under 65 to sit two strokes behind leaders Robert MacIntyre and Ryan Fox.
He is one of many PGA Tour pros featured on the Netflix show. Full Swing Dahmen has become a fan favorite in this series. In the previous season, he talked about his struggles on the golf course. Dahmen has been searching for a way to improve his game and Harry Higgs helped him find this new plan.
“Harry Higgs has been talking about it a lot over the last two weeks and it’s been the same thing,” Dahmen said. “I just accept what happens, go and do it again. It gives me the space to play golf and let my body take control. If I don’t get in the way, my body knows what to do.”
Dahmen went 67-65 over the first two days. The game feels good For him, the hard work he put into the process appears to have paid off this week in Canada.
“I’ve been doing a lot more visualization before my shots. I’ve been working hard on that lately,” Dahmen explained. “I’m really committed to what I’m doing. It’s like I have a clear plan. I know that sounds weird to say I’ve been playing golf for so long without a clear plan, but I’ve been doing the same thing over and over again and it’s worked.”
Dahmen is fourth in putting strokes gained with 6.4 strokes. The 36-year-old made a putt from 127 feet over the past two days.
“My putting was good this week. My shots were good. Everything just went well,” he said. “I just stuck to my game and did the same things over and over again. Over the two days, it came out pretty good.”
He also gained 9.6 strokes through the first two days, third-best in total strokes gained, but one of the most impressive things was that he hit 30 of 36 on regulation greens.
Dahmen will tee off alongside Andrew Novak at 3:15 pm ET in the third round of the RBC Canadian Open. It’s been a long time since he’s had an afternoon tee time on the weekend, but he’s been working at it and so far the efforts have paid off.
“The last time I had that experience was at the U.S. Open, so that’s good,” Dahmen said. “I feel like this is where I’m supposed to be, this is where I’m supposed to be, so I’m looking forward to hitting some golf shots under the gun this weekend. I haven’t done that in a long time, so I’m excited.”
He hasn’t missed the cut since the Valero Texas Open in April, but has only one top 30 finish. Now the PGA Tour winner is looking for his second career victory.
