With their loss to the Florida Panthers on Saturday night, the Rangers not only marked the end of more than 30 years since their last Stanley Cup win, but also the end of another winless season among the top eight New York-area professional teams.
According to the Associated Press, the Rangers, Islanders, Knicks, Nets, Yankees, Mets, Jets and Giants have played a combined 100 seasons but none of them have won a championship.
The last time these teams won a championship was in February 2012, when the Giants beat the New England Patriots to end the 2011 season.

Other professional leagues have had local championships, including NYCFC winning the MLS title in 2021, but none of the traditional big four leagues have done so.
The Yankees have the best record in the American League and are therefore seen as the most likely to end the losing streak.
The team last won a championship in 2009, and the 14-year gap since then is the team’s longest gap since the 18-year gap from 1978 to 1996.
The Rangers last won the Stanley Cup in 1994, while the Mets (1986), Islanders (1983), Knicks (1973) and Jets (1968) all have longer waits to win it.
The Nets won the ABA championship in 1976 but have never won an NBA title.
