A North Carolina man has been accused of killing his estranged wife, who went missing with her, then killing himself after her body was found with gunshot wounds in a wooded area on Friday.
The tragic discovery came after an Ashanti Alert was issued for Cynthia Goble, 60, on Thursday and her husband, Greg Goble, 59, was identified as a suspect in her disappearance.
The Davie County Sheriff’s Office had been searching for the Gobbles since then, eventually finding both bodies in a wooded area in Iredell County.
Authorities say the couple were in the process of divorcing at the time of her disappearance, and evidence suggests Greg killed his wife and then turned the gun on himself. WFMY News reported.
Police responded to check on Cynthia at her Mocksville home around 10 p.m. Thursday and found the woman gone, but had left behind her purse, wallet and insulin.
Investigators said the search also uncovered evidence that Cynthia had been removed from her home against her will.
Gregg was listed as a suspect in the disappearances, but authorities and family members have been unable to locate him or the white food truck that investigators believe he was driving on the day the couple disappeared.
An Ashanti Alert, similar to an Amber Alert for adults, was issued for Cynthia, and Greg was identified as a suspect in her disappearance.
The alert stated there was evidence of “physical danger, abduction and kidnapping.”
On Friday, the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office found Greg’s Food Truck in a wooded area near Sheffield Road and found two bodies nearby.
Investigators have confirmed the bodies belonged to Cynthia and Greg, and said the murder weapon was found nearby.
“Detectives from Iredell County and Davie County are currently investigating the scene,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement. “No other individuals are suspected to have been involved in this incident and there is no ongoing danger to the public.”
