Two NYPD cops shot in Queens by 19-year-old

Two officers were shot early this morning in Queens while attempting to stop a suspect on a motorized scooter.

Plainclothes officers from the 115th Precinct’s Public Safety Unit stopped the suspect at 1:41 a.m. at the intersection of 89th Street and 23rd Avenue in Elmhurst.

When officers attempted to stop the scooter, the suspect abandoned the bike and began to flee.

As officers pursued him, the suspect pulled out a gun and fired shots at officers.

One was shot in the back and the other suffered a graze wound in the abdomen.

At least one officer returned fire, striking the 19-year-old suspect in the leg.

The officer was taken to Elmhurst General Hospital and the suspect was taken to Booth Memorial Hospital.
