“By building three strong journalism functions — core, service/social and opinion — we are taking a decisive step away from a ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach and moving toward meeting readers where they are,” Lewis said.

Murray expressed his excitement to begin editing the newspaper: “It is a great honour to be joining such a storied news organisation with a long and rich history of memorable and impactful journalism. I would like to thank Sally for her fantastic leadership.”

“I am excited about Will and Jeff’s vision for The Post’s next era of growth and transformation, and can’t wait to get started.”

“It was a time of turmoil and upheaval internally,” one Washington Post insider said.
