Portland, Oregon (coin) – Sometimes you want to go somewhere where everyone knows your name, and sometimes you want to go to a “quirky cocktail spot.”
If you’re looking for a bar that more closely fits the second description, you might want to check out one of the 42 spots rated as the best bars in America. Esquire.
The publication recently released its 2024 list, showcasing bars in 18 states.
New York and California boasted the most winners, with eight and seven bars respectively making it onto Esquire’s list.
Among them are Part-Time Lovers in San DiegoUsing Japan’s listening bars as a benchmark, Esquire magazine noted the bar’s “midcentury living room, but more luxurious” atmosphere. KenyaOpening in 2022, Part Time Lover is in partnership with Folk Arts Rare Records, a long-established record and music retailer in the city.
spookyA Northeast Portland bar that calls itself a “weird little cocktail spot” also made the Esquire list. The self-described “cross between a speakeasy and a dive bar” is due to open in 2023. The owner is He previously told Nexstar’s KOIN While some high-end cocktail bars can be pretentious with their customers, he wants the atmosphere at The Uncanny to be welcoming.
Two Colorado bars also made the list. Traveling Mercies in Aurora and Sunday Vinyl in DenverNexstar South KoreaThe former is an oyster and cocktail bar, Food and Wine Best New Chef Caroline Glover and co-owner Nelson Harvey, who opened this year and, like Part-Time Lover, paired records with drinks.
The Punch Room at Tampa’s first five-star hotel, the Tampa Edition, also received praise from Esquire magazine, which said it “specializes in the flavors and spirits of the Caribbean and the Gulf of Mexico,” according to Nexstar’s WFLA. ReportsThe establishment is one of three Florida bars to make the list, along with Kaiju in Miami and Medium Cool in Miami Beach.
