For the first time since 2015, and just the second time since 2004, the French Open will not be won by Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal or Roger Federer.
Djokovic, the top seed, withdrew from the men’s singles tournament on Tuesday due to a knee injury ahead of his quarterfinal against seventh-seeded Casper Ladd.

Djokovic trailed 2-1 going into the fourth set on Monday and hung on to win, but suggested he was unsure what was going to happen for the rest of the tournament.
“I don’t know what’s going to happen tomorrow, if I’ll be able to go out on court and play after tomorrow,” Djokovic said. “I hope so. We’ll see what happens.”
This means that Jannik Sinner, who won his first Grand Slam title at the Australian Open earlier this year, has become the new No. 1 in the world tennis rankings.
