LT. GOV. STAVROS ANTHONY AND JORGE MARTINEZ: Dems Who Oppose Deporting Illegals Who Assault Police Disserve Americans

At a time when public safety and respect for law enforcement should take precedence above all else, it is disheartening to see so many of our left-leaning elected officials turn their backs on the brave men and women who risk their lives to protect us.

recently, 148 Democrats The U.S. House of Representatives voted against a major bill aimed at detaining and deporting illegal immigrants who assault police officers. This vote to protect aliens who commit crimes is not only a betrayal of law enforcement officials, but also a harm to the safety and well-being of U.S. citizens and legal immigrants.

of A law to detain and deport illegal immigrants who assault police officers is a clear proposal that illegal immigrants who assault police officers, firefighters, or other emergency personnel should be forcibly detained and deported. This measure is designed to send a clear message that acts of violence by those in our country illegally against law-abiding people who protect our communities will not be tolerated. However, 148 Democrats chose to oppose this commonsense bill, raising serious questions about their commitment to public safety and the rule of law.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation report It found that 79,091 police officers were assaulted in 2023, the highest rate in the past decade. Our nation’s police officers already face enormous challenges as they operate under the constant threat of violence, often from individuals with no regard for the law. The added risk of facing perpetrators, who may remain in our country if not held accountable, further complicates these challenges. By voting against this bill, these Democrats have effectively suggested that their political agenda of supporting criminal aliens is more important than the safety of our nation’s police officers.

This decision also sends a disturbing message to the public: it suggests that the safety and security of the American people can be compromised at the whims of political expediency. The implications of this attitude are far-reaching: when elected officials prioritize the interests of those who break the law over those who enforce it, it undermines the foundations of our legal system and erodes public trust.

The arguments of those opposed to this bill revolve around unfounded concerns about immigration enforcement and possible racial profiling. Criminal aliens often prey on immigrant communities who have a right to live in a safe environment. Assault on a police officer is a felony and those who commit such acts must face appropriate punishment, regardless of their immigration status. The appropriate remedy for illegal immigrants who assault brave law enforcement officers is deportation.

Moreover, the idea that this bill will lead to expanded racial profiling is a misconception. This bill specifically targets individuals who have committed violent crimes against police officers. It does not advocate for the indiscriminate or arbitrary detention and deportation of immigrants. Rather, it seeks to remove from our communities people who pose a clear and imminent danger to public safety. This is not a partisan issue. This is an issue of common sense and public safety.

The 148 Democrats who voted against this bill must be held accountable for their decision. Their constituents deserve to know why they chose to side with criminal aliens who attack police officers, rather than the men and women who put their lives on the line every day. They need to explain why they believe the rights of violent criminals who break immigration laws should take precedence over the safety of law-abiding citizens and the police officers who protect them.

At the America First Institute, The safety and security of the American people First, we stand with law enforcement officials. Policies to protect them and uphold the rule of lawThe recent vote against this important bill is a stark reminder that there is still work to be done, and it is incumbent on all of us to demand that our elected officials prioritize the safety of our communities and the people who serve and protect us.

Voting against the detention and deportation of illegal immigrants who attack police officers is a clear abdication of responsibility by 148 Democrats. This is a decision that endangers public safety and weakens the rule of law. We must continue to insist on policies that protect law enforcement officers and hold accountable those who harm them. The American people deserve better than that.
