“Jeopardy!” contestants aren’t typically known for their sports knowledge, but the three contestants on Tuesday’s episode came out on top.
In the most recent episode, there were three particularly tough clues in the “21st Century Sports” category, but the $400 clue was a no-brainer, at least for sports fans.
Here’s the hint: “In 2007, this National League team became the first to lose 10,000 games, and in 2008 they won the World Series thanks to the efforts of Cole Hamels and Ryan Howard.”
Even though the clues mentioned two key players who contributed to the Phillies’ victory, the contestant in the middle, Christina, pressed the buzzer and mistakenly guessed the Cubs.
No one else agreed, so the $400 was rejected.
The $800 clue didn’t offer any reprieve.
“It’s a bit like the science fiction Door to Anywhere or Phoenix Gate, and it opened on October 15, 2018 to take college athletes to their new schools,” read the statement by host Ken Jennings.
But none of the three contestants tried out for college, and the words “What’s the transfer portal?” were uttered by anyone other than Jennings.
Back in the professional ranks, even a thousand dollars on the line didn’t make things any better.
“And now in Oklahoma City, the triple-double guru is the first player since the 1950s to win back-to-back NBA All-Star Game MVP awards,” Jennings read as a photo of Russell Westbrook appeared on the screen.

Adriana, the four-day champion, guessed Kevin Durant, and in fairness, it was a good guess considering he and Westbrook were a fearsome duo on the Thunder.
Unfortunately, the guess was wrong and Adriana lost $1,000.
But she ended up continuing her winning streak, winning five consecutive matches to increase her total winnings to more than $116,000.
But with some tips from the sports section, she could have made a few more bucks.
