Dems troll RNC for promoting convention with Ho Chi Minh City photo

Democrats have slammed the Republican National Convention for using a background photo on its website of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, instead of Milwaukee, where the party will be holding its convention next month.

The background photo, taken in Ho Chi Minh City, was circulated on social media on Tuesday by a Boston Globe reporter. I posted a screenshot The screenshot, which appears to be from the Republican National Committee’s “news and updates” website section, had been viewed more than 598,000 times and had 3,700 likes as of Wednesday.

The Democratic National Committee pointed out this apparent error Tuesday night.

“If Donald Trump and the RNC were actually running a full campaign in Wisconsin, it could mean the difference between Milwaukee and Ho Chi Minh City. We encourage Republicans to continue to focus all their efforts on winning over Ho Chi Minh City voters while Democrats win the votes of Wisconsinites,” Alex Floyd, the RNC’s emergency director, said in a statement.

The Republican National Convention begins on July 15 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

An RNC spokesperson confirmed that the image did not come from RNC properties and was placed on the organization’s website by a web developer who is no longer involved with the convention. The image has been replaced.

Wisconsin Democratic Party Posted later On social media platform “X,” a photo of a T-shirt reading “Attended the 2024 Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA” was edited to cross out the location and replace it with “Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.”

“The Trump RNC doesn’t seem to know where Milwaukee, Wisconsin is,” said Wisconsin Democratic Party Chairman Ben Wikler. Added to X.

The Republican National Committee is expected to nominate Trump as its candidate at its convention next month, which will be held four days after the former president is scheduled to be sentenced in New York in a hush-money case.

The former president was convicted last week of all 34 felony counts of falsifying business records to hide alleged extramarital affairs during the 2016 presidential campaign.

Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Whatley said Tuesday that the committee is planning for the possibility that Trump could be jailed during the convention.

“Yeah, that’s what we’re working on right now,” Whatley said during an appearance on Newsmax’s “Wake Up America” on Tuesday. “I’m actually going to be in Milwaukee this week and we’ll be having a series of discussions there.”
