Two young men are accused of kidnapping a dachshund named Milkshake from a New York apartment last month and trying to extort money from the dog’s owner. New York Post report.
Two 16-year-old boys, whose names have not been released, were arrested Monday and charged with third-degree burglary and second-degree harassment. The New York Police Department (NYPD) said the dog, an emotional support service dog, remains missing.
“At this time, Milkshake has not been located,” Detective Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenney told reporters at a press conference on Tuesday. “We have been advised that Milkshake has escaped. We have checked all of the shelters that have posters and Milkshake is nowhere to be found.”
“I don’t think the dog ran away,” Kenny added. “It was either given to someone or sold.”

The owner, Luz Montanez (34), previously said, post The victim said her 10-year-old female dachshund, Milkshake, was stolen on May 4 while she was distracted during her young son’s birthday party.
The NYPD reportedly released video last week that showed the dog chasing two boys down hallways, up and down stairs and to the door of a Bronx building on Tiffany Street near Westchester Avenue.
Kenny said after Montanez put up missing person posters in the neighborhood, the suspects began contacting Montanez and demanding he send them money through Cash App in exchange for the dog.
“They called her and tried to slightly blackmail her,” Kenny said.[They said,] “If you give me the money, I’ll give you your dog back.”
Other children also began harassing Montanez over the phone, according to the report.
“Kids started calling her and making fun of her and making fun of her,” Kenney said, noting the suspects live in the same building as Montanez.
Milkshake had not been returned by Tuesday and police do not know her whereabouts.
According to the report, Montanez told the magazine that Milkshake was just three weeks old when he received him as a gift from his father, “and he fed him from a bottle and kept his teeth in the bottle.”
“Milkshake is definitely my oldest daughter. I call her my favorite,” she said. “My two kids are my favorites. I tell her, ‘You’re my favorite dog.’ And I [son]”You are my favorite person.” These two are my children!
“This is my baby. My soulmate,” she added. “This is my heart, my heartbeat. This child has been through everything with me.”
