Northern Irish golfer Rory McIlroy’s ex-wife has missed the deadline to respond to his divorce petition, according to a new report.
The Palm Beach County Clerk’s Office confirmed that Erica Stoll had not filed anything past Sunday’s deadline. The Daily Mail reported.
Because Stoll, 36, failed to respond, the court could grant McIlroy a divorce, meaning the proceedings could continue without the refusing party taking part.
Stoll was served with divorce papers at her Florida home on May 13, just days before the start of the PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville.
In court filings last month, McIlroy said his marriage was “irretrievably broken.”
The filing also revealed that the couple had a prenuptial agreement that divided custody of their three-year-old daughter, Poppy.
Court documents obtained by the Belfast Telegraph last month said Ms Stoll was served with divorce papers by a private investigator at the family’s Jupiter, Florida, home.
Carl Woods, a former Palm Beach police officer who now runs the private practice CW Services & Associates, delivered the documents to Stoll at 10:30 a.m. on May 13.
McIlroy signed the divorce papers on May 9 while playing at the Wells Fargo Championship.
The document served on Mr Stoll warned that he had 20 days to respond.
“Telephone communications will not protect you,” the summons states. “If you want the Court to hear your side of the story, you must submit a written response including the case number and names of the parties listed above.”
“Failure to file a timely answer could result in losing your case, which could then result in the court garnishing your wages, money and property without warning.”
