Denver sports anchor blasts ‘bank robber’ Kris Bryant

To one sportscaster in Denver, struggling Rockies infielder Kris Bryant, who recently returned to the disabled list after batting just .186 through the first 24 games of the year, was guilty of a crime.

“Kris Bryant is one of the greatest bank robbers of all time,” said 9News sports anchor Scotty Gange. According to Awful Announcement“The Rockies first baseman has been placed on the injured list again and will miss at least another week and a half. He has now missed 239 games in two and a half years, or roughly two out of every three games.”

“And with a guaranteed contract, Bryant made $25 million for games he didn’t play. That’s theft. In case you’re wondering, $25 million is the sixth-greatest theft in the history of the world.”

Bryant, who had already missed 31 games in 2024 with a sore back, veered toward the net in foul territory in the bottom of the eighth inning against Colorado on Sunday, twisted to grab the ball and fell to the ground, also suffering a bruised left rib.

Bryant signed a seven-year, $182 million contract with the Rockies ahead of the 2022 season, but he has only batted .247 in 146 games and has been on the disabled list seven times, according to ESPN.

“Our hope is that Chris stays healthy and stays on the field,” Rockies manager Bud Black told reporters on Wednesday. According to ESPN:“There’s been a lot of interruptions. It’s frustrating for Chris because he wants to play. There’s been all kinds of injuries that have come up. I don’t have a crystal ball.

“But hopefully, this will be resolved relatively quickly and he’ll be back on the field, back on the active roster, gain some momentum performance-wise and we’ll get to see the real Kris Bryant.”

Early in his career, Bryant was an up-and-coming star who ended the Cubs’ 108-year streak without a World Series appearance.

He was a third baseman who had appeared in four All-Star Games, won Rookie of the Year and MVP awards two consecutive years and was in position to earn a huge contract when he became a free agent after the 2021 season.

But what followed was inconsistency at the plate and a number of injuries.
