2024 heats up after Trump conviction; Israel-Hamas war intensifies

Former President Trump made his first campaign stop last week since his conviction in the hush-money trial in Arizona, a key battleground state that President Biden won by just half a percentage point in the 2020 presidential election.

The convicted former president has spent much of the last month in a Manhattan courtroom and is now on the campaign trail, trying to make up for lost time as November approaches.

The countdown to the general election is on and will be the focus of talk shows this Sunday.

Trump has not yet named a running mate, but is due to release a list of potential candidates in February. Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio) has emerged as one of Trump’s top contenders and is scheduled to appear on Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures.”

Vance is likely to speak out about his loyalty to Trump and about becoming the first former president to be convicted of a felony in the hush-money trial. The Ohio Republican was one of several politicians who attended the trial to be a “friendly face” in the courtroom.

Another person rumored to be Trump’s running mate is South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem (R). Noem will appear on CNN’s “State of the Union,” presumably to talk about her continued support for the former president, who stood by her during the controversy over an article in her upcoming memoir that alleged she shot her dog.

While Trump has been rallying voters in Las Vegas, urging them to take advantage of their options for voting by mail and early voting, he disputes this and claims the last election was rigged against him, while Biden is addressing an issue related to his own election: Israel’s war with Hamas.

The president spent much of the weekend and Thursday in France marking the 80th anniversary.Number On the anniversary of the Normandy landings, President Biden joined French President Emmanuel Macron to celebrate the news that four Israeli hostages had been rescued on Saturday.

Continuing negotiations towards a ceasefire are also likely to be a highlight of Sunday’s talk shows, as Israel shows no signs of slowing down its counterattack after President Biden announced an Israeli-led proposal for a ceasefire.

Despite growing international calls for a ceasefire, Biden said the US “will not stop” until all hostages are returned and a deal is reached between Israel and Hamas.

Cindy McCain, executive director of the United Nations World Food Programme, is due to appear on CBS’s “Face the Nation” to discuss growing humanitarian concerns for the people of Gaza, after warning last month that “full-scale famine” was on the way.

White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan will appear on CNN’s “State of the Union” to discuss the Biden administration’s ongoing efforts to reach a deal with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. After Biden announced the three-part plan, Netanyahu said the conditions for ending the war have not changed, and that a ceasefire would require the release of hostages and the return of bodies.

The performer list for this Sunday’s show is as follows:
