The 6-foot-3 Heisman Trophy winner went into the wind up and bounced the ball to the catcher’s right side, nearly landing in the hands of Commanders mascot Major Taddy.

Luckily, no one expects him to throw strikes on the diamond.

The Commanders selected Daniels with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2024 draft in April. He was a standout player at Louisiana State University, passing for 3,812 yards and 40 touchdowns in his final season with the Tigers, which made him a highly-regarded option for the Tigers, making them one of their top picks in the draft.

Daniels has been an active participant in over-the-top team activities over the past few weeks, but this is just the beginning of a long journey as he prepares to take charge as the starting quarterback in 2024.

“We’ve got a big passing camp starting up, and it’s creating some really good opportunities for our quarterbacks,” Commanders head coach Dan Quinn said on the team’s website. “You know, day one it was just the three and man-to-man, and now there’s a lot of coverage going on.

“So I think it’s good to see the progress he and the other quarterbacks make. We’re going to add teamwork, blitzes, pockets and stuff over the next few weeks, but I think what you don’t see, not just on video but in the meeting room, is the competitive drive and the learning and leadership that he already has. That speaks to his work ethic.”
