Most Americans Say Transgenderism Is a Political Distraction

The poll found that 56 percent of respondents believe that media and political coverage of the issue supports transgender causes.

According to the poll, just 1 percent of respondents identified as transgender; 2 percent said they were gay or lesbian, and 4 percent claimed a vague status of “bisexual or pansexual.”

Among LGBTQ people, one in five said they were Republican or “leaning Republican.” A third of people who identified as “LGBTQ+,” or 33%, also described themselves as “very liberal.”

LGBTQ+ groups are also divided on teenagers who identify as transgender, with about half saying a teen’s transgender status is “sometimes” or “mostly” temporary.
