LIV Golf’s Jon Rahm withdraws from U.S. Open due to foot injury after consulting medical team

Jon Rahm He will not play in the U.S. Open this week, despite his best efforts to do so.

He made this announcement Social Media AccountsThis came just hours after he revealed at a pre-tournament press conference that he was worried about a foot injury.

“After consulting with numerous doctors and my team, I have decided it is in the best interest of my long-term health to withdraw from the U.S. Open Championship this week,” Rahm said Tuesday.

“To say we are disappointed is an understatement! I wish all my colleagues the best of luck and thank you to the USGA staff, volunteers and entire Pinehurst community for hosting and putting on what is sure to be a fantastic championship! We hope to be back soon!”

Rahm also withdrew from LIV Golf Houston last week.

“It’s concerning. It’s getting better, but it’s definitely still painful,” Lahm told media on Tuesday morning about the injury.

“I think the closest word I can come up with is skin damage. If I show you, there’s a little hole between my pinky finger and my next finger. I don’t know how or what happened to it, but it got infected. It was very painful.”

Rahm later added that he received an injection to ease the pain on Saturday morning, just hours before withdrawing from Houston.

“It was going to be painful for the whole round, but I was already feeling it by the second hole,” Rahm said.

“My concern was an infection. The infection is under control now but the swelling and pain are still there. I came here in shoes and flip flops to keep the area dry and to try to heal as quickly as possible. But there’s only one thing I can do – the human body can’t function that fast.”

Unfortunately, Rahm won’t be healthy enough to play in this year’s U.S. Open at Pinehurst No. 2. It’s been a tough year for Rahm so far, with a tie for 45th at Augusta National and missing the cut at Valhalla last month, as well as no wins at LIV.

His withdrawal from Pinehurst will mark his first absence from a major tournament since the 2016 PGA Championship, two months after turning pro.
