Congressman William Timmons (R-SC) won the Republican primary to represent Decision Desk HQ projects in South Carolina’s 4th Congressional District.
The conservative former prosecutor is seeking a fourth term in the House of Representatives, but is being challenged in the primary by state Rep. Adam Morgan.
Morgan, who founded the South Carolina House Freedom Caucus, had the backing of the American Freedom Caucus Chairman Bob Good of Virginia and the House’s most conservative Republican members, Reps. Matt Gaetz of Florida and Scott Perry of Pennsylvania.
Timmons boasts a conservative voting record and endorsements from former President Trump and House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana), but his rivals see him as a moderate.CriticizedThey criticized him for voting for former Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) before his historic ouster from his position in House leadership.
But the incumbent raised more money than Morgan and moved one step closer to reelection.
He will face Spartanburg County Democrat Katherine Harvey in the fall.ChairWhoRanThe seat is unchallenged on the Democratic side, but is a safe Republican seat, with Decision Desk HQ/The Hill projecting that Timmons has a 99% chance of winning in a head-to-head matchup against Harvey.
