Attorney General Merrick Garland is ignoring subpoenas from Republican lawmakers.

Garland urged Biden to assert executive privilege on the audio recordings.

Breitbart reported:

Attorney General Merrick Garland said this week that he would refuse subpoenas from Republican lawmakers with whom he disagrees.

According to the Washington Post, Garland’s statement came after Republican congressional leaders threatened to hold him in contempt for “attempting to obtain audio recordings of Special Counsel Robert K. Hur’s investigation into President Biden’s handling of classified materials.”

According to the Washington Post, Garland expressed concern that “releasing the recordings could harm future efforts to get officials to cooperate with the investigation and provide recorded interviews,” and urged the president to assert executive privilege over the recordings.

Speaking before the House Judiciary Committee this week, Garland accused Republicans of “targeting contempt charges as a way to obtain, without any legitimate purpose, sensitive law enforcement information that could undermine the integrity of future investigations. This effort is only the latest in a long line of attacks on the operations of the Department of Justice.”

The House is scheduled to vote on contempt charges against Garland on Wednesday.

Fox News reported:

The House is expected to vote on Wednesday to hold Attorney General Merrick Garland in contempt of Congress for failing to turn over audio recordings of Special Counsel Robert Hur’s meeting with President Biden.

While Hoare’s findings proved that Biden did not commit any wrongdoing in handling classified documents, he also described the 81-year-old president as a “caring, well-meaning elderly man with a declining memory” and said that “it would be difficult to persuade a jury to convict a former president, already in his 80s, of a felony that requires a resilient mental state.”

Biden and his allies vehemently denied concerns about his mental health following the report.

Republicans seeking the audio recordings say they provide important context about Biden’s state of mind, while Democrats have dismissed the request as a partisan attempt to politicize the Justice Department.
