Jets add sign Takk McKinley to add defensive line depth

The Jets added depth to their defensive line on Thursday by signing defensive end Takk McKinley.

McKinley, 28, participated in Jets minicamp this week as a tryout player and performed well enough to earn a contract.

McKinley was a first-round draft pick by the Falcons in 2017.

Jets defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich was Atlanta’s linebackers coach at the time.

McKinley remained with the team until he was released in November 2020.

He played 11 games with the Browns in 2021 and four games with the Rams in 2022.

He played for the Cowboys last offseason but did not play in a game.

In 64 career games, McKinley has recorded 98 tackles, 20 sacks, three forced fumbles and one fumble recovery.

The Jets announced that players will report to training camp on July 23 and hold the team’s first practice on July 24.

The first practice open to fans will be on July 27th.

In addition, public practice sessions are scheduled to be held on July 30th, August 3rd, August 7th, August 13th, and August 20th.

In addition, a public joint training session with the manager is scheduled for August 8th.

The joint practice with the Giants on August 21st will be open only to season ticket holders.
