Although the food we eat is said to be safe by government agencies such as the FDA, the chemicals in that food are far from safe.
Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, who introduced a bill to ban toxic color additives and high fructose corn syrup in food, has shed light on this shockingly little-known fact.
“One of the bills I’m very passionate about is ensuring that all Americans, regardless of party affiliation or social class, have access to clean food,” Luna says. Sara Gonzalez.
Luna, who grew up on food stamps, calls what’s happening “government subsidy poison” that’s “making some of the poorest people in the country sick.”
“Ultimately, that leads to higher debt, lower life expectancy, infertility, and I think it’s our children who suffer the most.”
“We now know that a lot of the artificial colours that are banned in many countries, including Australia, parts of Europe and Asia, are actually linked to cancer, infertility and ADHD,” Luna explains. “They’re really harming our children and our people.”
Companies that use chemicals are “taking the cheap route and basically poisoning our families.”
Luna expects there to be bipartisan support no matter what, but he is confident a Trump presidency would lead to the bill passing.
“This needs to happen,” Gonzalez said, “and I hope this is a step towards completely overturning the FDA, because at the end of the day, it’s the FDA that allows all these toxic chemicals and food dyes and all this stuff to get into American food.”
