In a new interview on Saturday, Rep. Madeleine Dean (D-Pennsylvania) slammed Project 2025, a massive Republican omnibus plan that seeks to advance right-wing priorities and expand presidential power, calling it “un-American.”
In the MSNBC report, Dean was forthright about his feelings about the broader conservative effort.
“This is really un-American,” the Democrat said. “When you really think about it, we have an institution that we pride ourselves on supporting elected officials and government employees who are legislating for the executive power of the president.”
“Instead, what they want to do is replace civil servants, people who are working for the country without political bias,” she continued.
Project 2025The plan, known as the Presidential Transition Project, is a blueprint from the Heritage Foundation for what former President Trump should do if he is re-elected, and is aimed at promoting right-wing policies and expanding presidential power.
“Just one year into his presidency, President Trump has accepted nearly two-thirds of The Heritage Foundation’s proposals,” the foundation noted on its website.
Dean went on to say that the idea of replacing current public officials with people loyal to President Trump is deeply isolationist and nationalistic, ultimately calling the plan a “very frightening endeavor.”
“It affects the entire system. We should be served by people who put the interests of the American people first, not their political ambitions or agendas,” Dean said.
House Democrats launched an initiative this week to combat Project 2025, citing concerns about the project’s proposed policy changes, including the abolition of certain federal agencies.
Dean added that while he doesn’t believe Trump will be re-elected or that Project 2025 will succeed, he is concerned about the potential dangers posed by Trump’s rhetoric in the meantime.
