The upcoming completion of LCOR’s 1515 Surf Avenue is the best news for Coney Island since the parachute jump was designated a city landmark.
Located just a short walk to the ocean, the twin tower apartment complex offers exactly what the neighborhood needs: more market-rate housing.
The project’s 16- and 26-story towers will house 324 apartments, more than half of which will be market-rate apartments.
The rest is “affordable,” and Coney Island has plenty of that. There’s nothing wrong with low-cost new housing, but the area needs more middle-income residents to support better shops and restaurants than it currently does.
The building will also feature 10,600 square feet of retail, and as a major, experienced developer, LCOR will be sure to attract the type of retail needed by local residents of all income levels to the ground floor.
