Bryson DeChambeau wins US Open as Rory McIlroy’s drought continues

Rory McIlroy’s major slump continues.

After a chance to win the U.S. Open but bogeying the final hole, Bryson DeChambeau made par on the 18th hole, hitting his third shot from a bunker right on the hole to win at 6-under.

McIlroy and DeChambeau were in a fierce battle on the final day of the tournament at Pinehurst No. 2 Golf Course.

McIlroy has not won a major tournament in 10 years, since winning both the PGA Championship and the British Open in 2014.

With this win, DeChambeau won the second major title of his career.

“It would be so awesome to finally win the next major,” McIlroy said after last year’s U.S. Open. “I’d be happy to have 100 Sundays like this to win another major.”

McIlroy is one of the biggest names in sports, but his personal life has been a hot topic recently.

First came his divorce from Erica Stoll in May, and then news that the golf superstar had filed a notice of voluntary dismissal in the lawsuit.

At the time of the lawsuit, the marriage was described as “irretrievably broken.”

However, earlier this week McIlroy said the couple’s “differences have been resolved.”

“Over the past few weeks, Erica and I have realized that our best future is staying together as a family,” he said.

The couple have been married for seven years and have a three-year-old daughter, Poppy.
