He’s jumping into a new role.
Scooter Braun has announced his retirement from music management, nearly a year after parting ways with some of his biggest clients, including Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande.
“This chapter of my 23 years as a music manager has come to an end,” he said. He wrote in a lengthy Instagram statement. On Monday, he posted some throwback photos capturing highlights from his career.
Brown, 42, explained that retirement was a long time coming.
“It’s a strange feeling because I guess I’ve wanted this for a while, but I was really scared to answer the question, ‘Who would I be without them?'” he said.
Brown, who began managing artists when he was just 19, said he’s been available to clients around the clock for his entire adult life.
“And for 20 years I loved it. It was all I knew,” he wrote.
But Brown said that with his three children, whom he had with ex-wife Yael Cohen, now grown and his personal life “taking a hit,” he realized he needed to devote more time to his family.
“I realized that my children were three superstars I couldn’t afford to lose,” he wrote. “The sacrifices I was once willing to make could no longer be justified. It was time to step into a new role.”
Brown is stepping away from music management to focus on his role as CEO and director of Hive America, an entertainment company where he continues to work with Grande, as well as investing in entrepreneurs and serving as a national board member for Make-A-Wish.
“Chairman Bang has been a great partner to me over the past three years. [Si-Hyuk]”He has a vision that I truly believe in, but more than that, he has become a true friend who understands where I need to be in life these days,” Brown wrote.
“And that means being a father first, a CEO second, and no longer a manager.”
Brown said he had been “working towards this destination” for the past two years, but only decided to make the change after parting ways with his largest client last summer.
He did not name his clients, but reports surfaced in August 2023 that Bieber and Grande, both 30, had fired him as their manager.
“God has been leading me in this direction for a long time,” Brown wrote. “I have nothing but love for the people I’ve worked with over the years, and as our working relationships change, I will always be there for them, counseling them, and supporting them, whether in person or from afar.”
He then reminisced about the many stars he’s worked with, including Andrew Wyatt, Lil Dicky, J Balvin, Demi Lovato, Zac Brown Band, Martin Garrix, David Guetta, Carly Rae Jepsen, Quavo and Kanye West.
“But this Christmas day when Ariana and Justin became the biggest man and woman in the history of the Spotify Billion Club, I just smiled and thought, ‘How amazing,'” he said.
“Watching them both grow into the legends they are today will forever be one of the greatest honors for me,” Brown added of his Stuck with You co-stars.
“I never imagined how this chapter would end. Heck, I never thought it would happen. But it did. And I cherish every moment of it. I made my own plans…but in the end, I liked God’s plan better. Cheers!”
