Rory McIlroy spotted with wife for first time since divorce saga

Rory McIlroy had a tough day on the course on Sunday, but his personal life appears to be going well after reconciling with wife Erica Stoll.

McIlroy, who missed two short putts in his 2024 U.S. Open loss to Bryson DeChambeau, was spotted with Stoll and their 3-year-old daughter, Poppy, on Monday in Palm Beach, Florida, for the first time since their tumultuous divorce, which ended with McIlroy withdrawing his divorce filing last week.

Photographs obtained by The Washington Post show the couple and their daughter visiting the Loggerhead Marine Life Center in Juno Beach, Florida, with Stoll sporting a massive engagement ring.

She ditched the massive ring in May, but appeared to keep her wedding band on after the split.

McIlroy, 35, filed for divorce from Stoll after seven years of marriage on May 13, the day after he won the Wells Fargo Championship and three days before the PGA Championship, the year’s second major.

The divorce filing stated that their marriage was “irretrievably broken.”

But McIlroy revealed last Tuesday, two days before the start of the U.S. Open, that the couple were still dating.

“Over the past few weeks, Erica and I have realized that our best future lies together as a family.” McIlroy told The Guardian:.

“Thankfully, we have resolved our differences and look forward to a new beginning.”

According to the Belfast TelegraphMcIlroy and Stoll met over the past four weeks at their Jupiter, Florida, mansion to discuss a parenting plan for Poppy, eventually reconciling based on “deep trust.”

McIlroy’s divorce filing was “long overdue”, but Stoll’s “careful response” to the shock news has reportedly allowed the pair to stay married.

McIlroy fled Pinehurst on Sunday, minutes after DeChambeau sank the deciding putt, with the Northern Irishman captured on video getting into his car and leaving the course.

He immediately flew to Florida and returned to the home he shares with his wife. According to the Mirror.

Between the divorce filing and the couple’s reconciliation, the Daily Mail wrote that rumors of a romance between McIlroy and CBS golf reporter Amanda Balionis were “the talk of the golf course,” but Us Weekly later reported that the pair’s relationship was merely “professional.”

“There have been some rumours going around recently about my personal life which is unfortunate. It would be foolish to react to every single rumour,” McIlroy told The Guardian last Tuesday.

Sunday marked the second consecutive year that McIlroy finished second in the U.S. Open and he has finished in the top 10 in each of his past six U.S. Open appearances.

His only U.S. Open victory came at the 2011 Congressional Tournament.
