Serena Williams opens up about her post-pregnancy body On Instagram Over the weekend, she shared a video of herself getting a spa treatment to fade the scars on her stomach.
“Taking time for myself is something I’ve struggled with for a long time,” the tennis legend, 42, began in the caption, adding, “Finally, it’s starting to feel okay to take an hour away from the kids (nap time 🙈) to do something for myself.”
In the video, Williams, wearing a white crocheted top and matching skirt, lies on an examination table as a technician applies a clear gel to her abdomen and examines her with an ultrasound-like wand.
She underwent a body radiofrequency treatment, which uses electromagnetic waves to stimulate collagen and elastin production and tighten the skin.
The retired athlete thanked her friend for encouraging her to have the surgery, writing, “My girlfriend treated me to a spa day on my last trip to Paris. She knows I’ve been feeling self-conscious about my belly since having my two kids. I just couldn’t resist posting this video she took.”
She went on to say that the “results have been amazing,” writing, “I can see progress with my skin going back to normal and my confidence returning.”
“My body will never be the same but neither will I be the same because I have two amazing lights in my life: @Olympiaohanian and @adiraohanian,” she said, tagging her 6-year-old daughter Olympia Ohanian and her 10-month-old baby Adira Ohanian.
The retired athlete continued that she “always feels guilty” about taking away time from her daughters, but at the same time, she realizes she needs to prioritize her own health in order to “take better care of them.”
“While I will always love my birth scars, I wanted to thank my friends Mia and Nat for showing me that it’s okay to take time for yourself, away from work and kids,” she wrote, tagging Maison Lutetia Spa and its founder Nathaniel Akune.
Fans praised the relatable post, with one writing, “Hearing the greatest athlete of all time speak about insecurities about her body and the skin she is in… this DEF shows me it’s okay to be open and vulnerable about my body and the skin I’m in. Thank you for sharing, Serena!”
“I absolutely love your honesty and empathy. Your post speaks for millions of women who struggle with body insecurity after giving birth. Thank you 🙏🏽,” added another.
Some people assumed she was getting a pregnancy ultrasound in the video, with one writing, “I thought you were going to have a baby!! 🤰🏾 but self care is great!!”
From showing fans how she can’t fit into her too-tight jean skirt to detailing her post-baby workout routine, the star keeps getting real about motherhood.
