On a recent episode of the “Club Random with Bill Maher” podcast, guest Larry Wilmore highlighted his own hypocrisy.
“I have a healthy view on this,” Wilmore told Maher. “I just think all white people have a problem, so it doesn’t matter what party you’re in,” he said, laughing.
Maher then, in his usual fashion, called out Wilmore’s hypocrisy.
“I know this is a joke, and you can make all the jokes in the world about this, but I just want to point out that we’re living in a time where a lot of things couldn’t happen the other way around, so I can’t make that joke about you,” Maher said.
“We can, we just can’t say it publicly,” Wilmore replied.
“I think everything’s public now. I have no idea what’s not public in this world,” Maher said, laughing. “There are a lot of TikToks where young black women, usually women, are saying, ‘I can’t stand white people today,'” Maher shot back.
“But can you imagine what would happen if a white person said it the other way around?” he asked.
Wilmore went on to argue that white people just don’t put it online.
“But putting it on TikTok says a lot,” Maher continued. In response, Wilmore agreed that black people have “cultural license” to make fun of white people.
“What’s really interesting is that Wilmore said, ‘I think all white people are troublemakers,’ and then he laughed,” Dave Rubin said. “Larry Wilmore, I think you’re a TV star. You’re probably worth millions of dollars. You hang out with the elite of Hollywood.”
“We can make fun of you. We’re not making fun of you because you’re black, we’re making fun of you because your ideas are shallow and stupid and you don’t get a force field because of the color of your skin,” he added.
