Biden appears to forget Homeland Security’s name during White House event

President Biden froze up during a White House event on Tuesday and appeared to momentarily forget the name of his Homeland Security secretary.

Speaking in the East Room of the White House, the president announced new measures to give illegal immigrants living in the United States a path to citizenship.

Biden introduced himself with a familiar joke: “Jill Biden’s husband.”

He thanked Congress and Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, but appeared to stall out when trying to remember Mayorkas’ name.

“I don’t know if I’ll be able to introduce you all to the end,” Biden said, drawing laughter from the audience.

The president later dismissed the gaffe as an intentional joke, saying, “Jokes aside, Secretary Mayorkas, [of the Department of Health and Human Services] Mr. Becerra and his supporters, his family, law enforcement, faith leaders, and everyone here.”

Fox News Digital has reached out to the White House for comment.

Biden used the event to announce sweeping new policy changes that will give hundreds of thousands of undocumented immigrants in the U.S. a path to citizenship in an election year.

The President announced that within the next few months, the spouses of certain U.S. citizens who are in the U.S. illegally will be able to apply for permanent residency and ultimately citizenship without having to leave the country.

Biden’s apparent gaffe on Tuesday is the latest incident to call into question the president’s mental acuity heading into an election year.

Last week, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing Republicans and even Democrats, that the president was showing signs of slowing down in private meetings.
