McDonald’s all in on ‘Grimace Effect’ as Mets’ win streak rolls on

The Mets win and McDonald is ecstatic.

Since Grimus, the fast-food chain’s affable, 53-year-old purple character, threw out the first pitch at Citi Field last Wednesday, the Mets have won seven straight games, the most recent of which was a come-from-behind victory Tuesday night in Texas.

Following the Mets’ success, McDonald’s also joined in the social media fun, changing their entire X account to Grimace and the Mets logo.

The global restaurant’s account now has a profile picture of Grimas wearing a Mets hat with a small No. 55 on it, the same number as the City Connect jersey the Mets gave Grimas last week.

The company’s banner photo on X also shows Grimas wearing a Mets hat and pulling a van painted red with the Mets logo.

McDonald’s career currently revolves around the Mets.

“Good luck, Mets,” it says.

Following the Mets’ 7-6 win over the Rangers, two accounts were posted claiming to be Grimas’ voice.

“So thrilled with the Grimace Effect,” the account wrote, before adding a new post with a baseball autographed by Grimace.

A second post read: “Today was fun lol.”

Mets television station SNY also got in on the fun on Tuesday, posting a video on its X Channel of Edwin Diaz making his entrance from the bullpen at Citi Field while the now-famous song “Narco” played, but instead of just showing the closer, it also had Grimas superimposed on his body.

At the end of the clip, the character was shown actually throwing the first pitch at the Mets’ home stadium.

According to Forbes, the idea of a partnership between the Mets and Grimmas dates back to last year and finally came to fruition in June of this year.

“Grimas feels very fun and loved, and what we’re trying to do here is bring that fun to the ballpark and make it something people are excited about coming here.” Mets social media manager Janie Murray told the outlet:“I think those elements matched up well.”

Grimas was in the spotlight as an X-user on Tuesday night at Globe Life Field in Arlington. @alsostphenking posted photos and videos of himself He watched the Mets win wearing a purple sweater with a character’s face on it.

If the Mets, who are now half a game out of the National League Wild Card zone, can keep winning, there will be more smiles than grimaces on their fans’ faces.
