Jane Fonda, the 86-year-old actress and activist, said on CNN’s “The Situation Room” on Tuesday that because she’s older than President Joe Biden, his age shouldn’t be an issue.
Host Wolf Blitzer asked, “You mentioned this earlier, Jane, at the Biden/Harris Seniors event that you attended, the First Lady said to her husband, ‘Despite his age, and in fact because of his age, I think he has been one of the most effective presidents in our lifetimes.’ And she was right, the president’s age and health are key issues in this campaign. It’s been brought up many times, but why do you think voters should see that as a strength for the president?”
Fonda responded, “Well, I’m older than him. Age matters. You do get wiser, you learn things, you learn from your mistakes. I’ve seen him up close and he’s honorable. He’s perfectly qualified to be president of the United States. I don’t know if it’s because of his age or despite his age, but he’s honorable.”
She added: “You know, he’s someone we can work with and that’s what we need. We don’t need demagogues.”
