American businessmen Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss voiced their support for former President Donald Trump on Thursday, as a number of prominent technology and cryptocurrency investors have voiced their support for the “Make America Great Again” movement.
The Winklevoss twins each donated $1 million worth of Bitcoin to the Trump campaign. explanation Tyler said on X that he supports Trump because of the federal government’s ongoing efforts to crack down on cryptocurrencies, efforts that have not been slowed by President Joe Biden’s administration.
“This is not even up for debate.”
“The Biden Administration is weaponizing multiple government agencies to intimidate, harass, and sue good actors in our industry in an attempt to destroy our industry. The current Administration’s actions are nothing less than an unprecedented abuse of power exercised for distorted political gain, at the total expense of innovation, American taxpayers, and the American economy,” he said. “There is nothing the Biden Administration can do or say at this point to pretend otherwise.”
“I own cryptocurrency and I also own an investment company, so I lost multiple bank accounts,” Tyler said. [Winklevoss Capital] This is in part because the Securities and Exchange Commission has not issued rules or guidance to the cryptocurrency industry, instead going after industry participants based on a 1946 Supreme Court case involving citrus groves in Florida.
Given all the benefits his cryptocurrency business has provided to his employees and customers, Tyler wrote, “The Biden Administration has tried to destroy all of this. I am not going to stand by and let them. I will continue to fight for what I know is right.”
In contrast, “President Donald J. Trump is pro-Bitcoin, pro-cryptocurrency, and pro-business. That’s not even up for debate. Anyone who claims otherwise is grossly misinformed, delusional, or not telling the truth. It’s time to take back our country.”
Cameron echoed his brother’s post and summarised his views in three points.
The Winklevoss twins’ frustrations with the Biden administration echo those of many Trump supporters about the weaponization of government by agencies like the Justice Department and the FBI. And in the tech world, the Winklevoss twins are far from alone.
