The Biden administration is delaying deliveries of missiles intended for allies so they can be sent to Ukraine.

White House national security spokesman John Kirby announced Thursday that the administration will redirect deliveries of the Patriot, Nasam and Hawk missile systems in the near future.

Kirby said the White House had been in contact with other leaders to warn them about the delays.

He added that a surge in Russian attacks made the deployment of missiles to Ukraine urgently necessary.

But it may take some time for the missiles to reach Ukraine.

“The first shipments of this reprioritized air defense missile to Ukraine will be coming in the coming weeks,” Kirby explained. “Obviously, by the end of the summer, Ukraine will start receiving these first deliveries. Because this is an individual contract, I can’t say specifically how long the delays will be for all the affected countries.”

The new streamlining of foreign aid comes after Congress provided Ukraine with $62 billion in April, including funding for these missile systems.

Earlier this week, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accused President Joe Biden of delaying other lethal aid while continuing to fight Hamas and other Iran-linked groups.
