Authorities arrested Republican Michigan Rep. Neil Friske early Thursday morning after reports of a possible shooting in the state capital, the Associated Press reported.
Lansing police spokesman Jordan Garkis confirmed the arrest, saying Friske was taken into custody for a “felony-level offense” around 2:45 a.m. Details of the incident remain unclear as authorities continue to investigate. according to To AP.

The report is expected to be submitted to the Ingham County Prosecutor’s Office by Friday, which is expected to provide more clarity on the charges and circumstances that led to the arrest, according to the Associated Press. The congressman’s office has not yet responded to a request for comment. However, a statement on the congressman’s campaign Facebook page shortly after the arrest suggested the incident may have been related to the use of a firearm. Currently seeking reelection, Rep. Friske represents Charlevoix and Emmett counties, as well as parts of Sheboygan, Chippewa and Mackinaw counties. During his first term in the Michigan House of Representatives, Rep. Friske has maintained a conservative voting record. Outside of his duties in Congress, Rep. Friske is known locally for his family’s popular fruit orchard in Charlevoix County, according to the Associated Press.
