At least four people were shot and a police officer was allegedly assaulted during a Juneteenth celebration in Oakland, California, on Wednesday night.
About 5,000 people were attending the Juneteenth celebration, and what police described as “motorcycles and vehicles” entertainment began nearby just after 8 p.m., KTVU reported. report.
Several fights broke out and gunfire erupted, with at least four people shot, though details about the number of gunmen were not released.
One person was arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer.
Korean Quote “We were all celebrating and there were some sideshows and fights going on and the next thing we knew we heard fireworks so we ran that way,” said Tamia Robinson, a witness at the scene. “The next thing we heard was another ‘boom, boom, boom, boom,’ from the other side of the lake. We walked over and my sister saw one of her friends sprinting down the street and lying there.”
Oakland police released a statement early Thursday morning saying, “At this time, there have been no reported fatalities and the exact number of injuries is still under investigation. No arrests have been made in connection to this shooting. It is unknown at this time if there is one or multiple shooters.”
Breitbart News reported that at approximately 10:50 pm on June 15, 2024, eight people were shot, two of them fatally, during a Juneteenth celebration in Round Rock, Texas.
