Democrats are “not enthusiastic” about President Biden’s possible reelection, as the gaffe-prone commander in chief himself proves to be the biggest problem, a party political strategist suggested.
Recent polls have shown Biden trailing or holding tight behind his Republican rival, former President Donald Trump, but that’s likely down to the 81-year-old president’s own weakness: age. Politico reportedCiting interviews with numerous Democrats.
“Democrats are committed to winning the Senate and the House,” said Neil Oxman, a staunch party strategist.
But the Pennsylvania-based strategist added, “They’re just not keen on Biden being re-elected. That’s all.”
Oxman and other Democrats have argued that Biden’s weaknesses are likely due to his age, as well as his inconsistent messaging and dwindling support from younger generations.
“There’s a disconnect between success in our local areas and in our districts and the environment we’re experiencing at or near our top candidates,” said Steve Israel, former chairman of the Democratic House Campaign Committee.
“The fundamental question facing Democrats right now is, why are we doing so well in local and state elections, yet still polling so closely in the presidential election?”
This stark reality came to light after the latest polls on Thursday showed Trump trailing Biden in six battleground states, including the crucial state of Pennsylvania.

Meanwhile, a Fox News poll released Wednesday showed Biden leading Trump narrowly, 50% to 48%, ahead of the two candidates’ debate next week.
