This Sunday’s news programs are expected to focus on next week’s debate between President Biden and former President Trump.
The two presidents are scheduled to debate on CNN in Atlanta on June 27 at 9 p.m. EDT. Supporters of both Biden and Trump are scheduled to appear on Sunday’s broadcast, including Biden campaign national co-chair Mitch Landrieu and the Republican front-runner’s running mate, Gov. Doug Burgum (R.D.). Burgum will appear on CNN’s “State of the Union,” while Landrieu will appear on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”
Trump recently said on a podcast that he “doesn’t underestimate” Biden ahead of the next debate.
“I wasn’t a fan of his, [former House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.)] “That was years ago, but he won in a big way against Paul Ryan,” Trump said. “I think he’d be a great debate guy. I don’t want to underestimate him.”
Trump’s running mate, Rep. Byron Donald (R-Fla.), and Rhode Island Governor Kristi Noem are also scheduled to appear on the show this week, with Noem on “Meet the Press” and Donald on Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures.”
Next week also marks the second anniversary of the overturning of Roe v. Wade. Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), who will appear on ABC’s “This Week” on Sunday, said in a post on social media platform X last week that “overturning Roe is just the tip of the iceberg for radical anti-abortion politicians.”
“Republican politicians are seeking to ban abortion nationwide, limit access to birth control, and even restrict prenatal care. This is extreme and dangerous,” the Massachusetts senator said. Said in her post.
The Biden-Harris campaign announced earlier this week that Vice President Harris will travel to Maryland to commemorate the two-year anniversary of the Supreme Court decision that ended the constitutional right to access an abortion.
“The Vice President will remind voters that Donald Trump is to blame for the overturning of Roe and the chaos that has followed, and will highlight the threat that Trump’s reelection poses to reproductive freedom across the nation,” the campaign said in a statement.
President Trump gave the keynote speech at the Faith and Freedom Coalition’s “Path to the Majority” conference on Saturday, where he touted the end of Roe v. Wade.
“I want to thank the six Supreme Court justices — Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito, John Roberts, Brett Kavanaugh, Neil Gorsuch and Amy Coney Barrett — for the wisdom and courage they have shown in this long-running and highly contentious issue,” he said. “This has been a long fight.”
“We’ve done great things,” the former president added. “The big problem is it got wrapped up in the federal government, but the people decide. That’s the way it should be. Right now the people decide. Some states are a little bit conservative, some states are pretty liberal.”
Other issues that will likely come up include the recent treaty on mutual defense between North Korea and Russia, the crisis on the southern border, and the war between Israel and Hamas.
