Former President Trump told reporters on Saturday that he has decided who his running mate will be in November’s presidential election but hasn’t told anyone yet.
Trump He told NBC News Ahead of a rally in Philadelphia, Trump announced he had chosen his running mate.
When asked if he had made up his mind, Trump replied, “In my heart, yes.”
When asked if his chosen candidate knew he was the candidate, Trump replied, “No, nobody knows.”
The process of selecting Trump’s running mate has accelerated in recent weeks, with several candidates receiving vetting materials from the campaign, and Trump has said he may announce his running mate at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee next month.
A source familiar with the election process told The Hill that the leading candidates for the post are North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum (R), Sen. J.D. Vance (R) of Ohio and Sen. Marco Rubio (R) of Florida.
Other candidates who have received and are under consideration for screening materials include Sen. Tim Scott (R-South Carolina), Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Arkansas), Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-New York), Rep. Byron Donald (R-Fla.) and former Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Ben Carson.
Trump has repeatedly praised these men but has downplayed the impact his choices could have on the outcome of November’s presidential election.
“I’ve never had that much of an impact on an election before,” Trump told Fox News earlier this year.
